  • Makeshift memorial established near Pentagon at intersection of S. Joyce St and Columbia Pike.  Click here for map.  People from around the world laid flowers, flags, candles and cards.  The devastation is most overwhelming in the evening when flood lights illuminate the recovery work.  People sung patriotic songs and applauded the efforts of the recovery crews.

    On or about May 29, 1998, bin Laden issued a statement entitled
    "The Nuclear Bomb of Islam," under the banner of the "International Islamic Front for Fighting the Jews and Crusaders," in which he stated that
